What did you know about Colombia before your trip?
We didn’t have any great expectations of Colombia – not because it has a bad reputation or anything, but simply because we hadn’t given much thought to what we could expect.

What was the itinerary and preparation for your trip like?
The trip that kolumbienentdecken.ch created for us was completely in line with our interests. After a few small adjustments were made to our liking, we could have started right away! Although we knew that the well-known TV series “Narcos” does not correspond to the current reality, we were aware that we should travel in this country with a certain degree of caution and prior clarification of the respective safety. With these rules and the motto “ufs Buuchgfühl lose” we felt safe at all times!

How did you feel about the people in Colombia?
It’s unbelievable how warm and open Colombians are! As soon as we arrived, we received warm invitations to visit restaurants, go on city tours or visit other places – from private individuals! We really appreciated the open, honest interest!

What was your highlight in Colombia?
It is very difficult for us to single out one city, region or activity as a favorite. What made this unique trip so special was the variety of city-nature, hot-cold, adventurous-relaxing. Nevertheless, here are a few favorites:

– the view (Monserate Bogota, El Penol, Metrocable Medellin)

– the colorful alleyways of La Candeleria, Cartagena, Salento and Guatape

– the coffee farm in Colombia’s coffee triangle

– the hike to the lost city “Ciudad Perdida”

What do you think of Colombian cuisine?
Food is to traveling as a spoon is to soup! It’s such an important part – and we weren’t disappointed. You can get good meals for the equivalent of 3 francs, unthinkable in Switzerland! The trip was really packed with culinary highlights and we will especially miss the fresh fruit that you could buy on every street corner. The only thing we missed was the good spicy cheese. But you have to have reasons to go back home, don’t you? ?
